Welcome!

If you land on our webpage, it might be because you are curious about some conditions concerning the pelvic area.

The pelvis and pelvic floor muscles are interesting and actually impressive part of our bodies, that we know too little about and are often to scared or embarrassed to talk about. Poor awareness and function of the pelvic floor muscles can cause many symptoms and problems and can cause many people to suffer in silence and lose their dignity. Through years of research a better understanding of the pelvis and pelvic floor muscles have been achieved and therefor can be treated successfully.

Pelvic floor disorders may include sexual pain and dysfunction, incontinence issues, organ prolapse and pelvic pain.
It is widely thought that simply instructing a patient to do Kegel exercises (squeezes) is adequate to deal with these issues, which has been proven not to be true and there are many problems with this approach. Firstly, most people who have a pelvic floor disorder find it extremely hard to activate the pelvic floor muscles in the right way. Without proper instruction you are likely to contract every other muscle in the pelvic area, but not the pelvic floor. A pelvic floor contraction that is not strong enough or not performed correctly is not functional. That means it will not change your symptoms.
In the case that the pelvic floor is already overly activated (short and stiff) you are likely to make yourself worse. This type of pelvic floor disorder requires learning to let go of the pelvic floor.

It is especially important to establish whether the symptoms are related to TOO MUCH contraction or TOO LITTLE contraction of the pelvic floor. The treatment plan will differ significantly in each instance.

You are not alone, and that help is available!

Let us tell you more about what a pelvic physiotherapy does, which conditions we treat and what we assessment and treatment entail.

A pelvic physiotherapist is a physiotherapist that underwent post graduate specialized training in pelvic health, often including courses on pelvic anatomy, dysfunctions, and specific treatment techniques to treat specific conditions.

Pelvic floor physiotherapy is a treatment for problems related to the pelvic floor muscles and bony elements of the pelvis. This specialized therapy includes the evaluation of the pelvis, treatment techniques and exercises that can help relieve symptoms like pain, discomfort, and disruptions to your quality of life.

Every person has a pelvic floor. The pelvic floor is made up of the muscles that support the urinary, bowel and reproductive tracts. Therefore, this group of muscles controls your bladder and bowels and play a significant role in sexual function.

In women, the pelvic floor helps to keep your bladder in place in the front and the vagina and rectum in the back. Your uterus is held in place at the top of the pelvic floor by muscles, tendons, ligaments, and connective tissue. In men, the pelvic floor helps keep the bladder, bowels, urethra, and rectum in place.

The pelvic floor muscles attach to your pubic bone in the front and the sacrum and tail bone at the back. If the muscles in the pelvic floor are weak (hypotonic) or short and tight (hypertonic), they do not work as they should, and this may lead to pelvic pain and dysfunction.

When your pelvic muscles cannot relax or work together the way they should, you may have pelvic floor dysfunction. If these muscles cannot relax, and only remains tight, you may have:
